Taking MultiVersusoffline despite its popularity was a calculated move. In addition to an engine change, Player First Games also used this time to improve its net code, ensuring consistent and accurate online play as well as add more content. But Multiversuswasn't entirely unplayable. The offline modes were still accessible, including local matches and the training room.
Bringing with it the promise of improved netcode, enhanced visuals, and new characters and modes, MultiVersus is an integral part of Warner Bros. Discovery's pipeline. The use of Unreal Engine 5, in particular, is expected to be a game-changer, making characters like Shaggy's sandwiches look better than ever.
Despite the shift to a new engine, MultiVersuswill remain cross-generational in May and should guarantee a massive turnout. Thankfully, it will have full cross-play and cross-progression support across the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
While there's reason to feel excited to play as Superman again, MultiVersuswill likely be a microtransaction-heavy live service title. Warner Bros. remains heavily invested in the genre despite the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
