The September PlayStation Plus games include a GOTY 2021 candidate

The Essential lineup is a bit meh but the freebies for the more Extra and Premium more than make up for it.

Sony just confirmed the PS Plus games for September 2022 and they’re pretty special.

Essential tier subscribers will get three new games: Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and Toem: A Photo Adventure. Those with active subscriptions can get a digital copy of the said games starting on September 6.

Need for Speed: Heat is widely considered one of the best Need for Speed games in a decade, if not ever. Meanwhile, Granblue Fantasy: Versus is an uncharacteristically beginner-friendly hardcore fighting game. Finally, Toem: A Photo Adventure is a relaxing puzzler that should help you destress after a long day at work.

All you need is an Essential tier subscription to download the three aforementioned games. In the meantime, you’ll still have until September 5 to download last month’s freebies.

The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games catalogue will also be getting a handful of new additions beginning September 20, headlined by Deathloop.

Here’s the full list of upcoming games for the Extra tier of PS Plus:

  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Watch Dogs 2
  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
  • Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition
  • Chicory: A Colorful Tale
  • Monster Energy Supercross 5
  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX
  • Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show
  • Rayman Legends
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

Meanwhile, these games will be added to the Classic Games Catalogue of the Premium tier of PS Plus:

  • Syphon Filter 2 | PS1
  • The Sly Collection | PS3
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time | PS3
  • Bentley’s Hackpack | PS3
  • Toy Story 3 | PSP
  • Kingdom of Paradise | PSP

Heat is a beloved entry in the long-running racing sim franchise and should be the perfect opportunity for new racing fans who want to try the series out ahead of the release of the next entry. Electronic Arts expects to release the next Need for Speed by Q3 2022, as per a new earnings report. According to rumors, the racer will be out by December after a slight delay.
