Just like Resident Evil, Silent Hill's movie franchise has seen better days. Unlike its survival horror counterpart from Capcom, Silent Hill never really reached mainstream and box office success. The series' best live-action adaptation outing was Christopher Gans' that launched in 2006 and pulled in $100 million at the global box office.

Now, more than a decade later, Konami has once again tapped Gans to helm the franchise's cinematic reboot.

During Konami's Silent Hill Transmission announcement stream, the studio confirmed that Return to Silent Hill will borrow heavily from the plot of the original Silent Hill 2. The 2001 game is widely considered one of the best psychological survival horror games in history. Its story revolves around a man who stumbles upon Silent Hill while searching for the lost love of his life. But, what started as a romantic quest ended up being a nightmare filled with his own self-trauma and manifestations of his inner demons. However, most will know about Silent Hill 2 as the one with Pyramid Head.

According to Konami's head of IP and cross-media development for Silent Hill, Rui Naito, the new live-action movie came as a packaged pitch alongside the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team from one of the original producers, Victor Hadida.
