It's time to turn your phones into real Pokédexes. The Pokémon Company dropped a big announcement on the new Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, a digital adaptation of the iconic and still hyper-popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), set to launch on both Android and iOS platforms later this year.

Since the 1990s, the Pokémon TCG has been one of the most enduring IPs in the collectible card game (CCG) industry, along with Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! With decades of sets and expansions, new fans can find getting into the hobby a bit daunting.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket

promises to be a simpler entry point and redefine the way players collect and interact with their favorite Pokémon cards. Mainly, it will be doing away with the classic medium of actual, physical paper.

Upon launch, players can dive into this new TCG based on the Pokémon franchise by battling, collecting, and trading Pokémon cards through the mobile app. The experience of opening booster packs has been enhanced with interactive animations, allowing users to swipe their fingers to cut through virtual plastic wrap in an attempt to emulate the physical version of the activity.
