Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is an upcoming multi-platform remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater could either start a new golden age for Metal Gear or set the franchise back by another decade.

While Konami refuses to talk about two of its biggest upcoming games, PlayStation has no such problems.

In a surprising turn of events, PlayStation, via a promotional video and a new page, just confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming out sometime this year.

The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater isn’t exclusive to the PlayStation platform, which Xbox so clearly pointed out in its initial reveal. However, Metal Gear is closely associated with the PlayStation brand, which might explain why Sony is getting first dibs on this reveal. It’s also possible that it has exclusive marketing rights to the upcoming game, which could also mean that it may have PlayStation-exclusive content.

As previously mentioned, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The game was first announced at a PlayStation Showcase back in May 2023, and later, in-engine gameplay footage was shared at an Xbox Partner Preview in October. Konami has stated that this remake aims to be a “faithful recreation of the original story and game design,” evolving the gameplay experience with improved visuals and a seamless user experience. Fans can expect “unprecedented graphics and immersive sound,” making for a visually impressive remake. Finally, despite the attempt to modernize the game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feature the original voice acting of the classic 2004 title, including the return of David Hayter.

Unlike the original, which was exclusive to PlayStation 2 for years, the remake will launch simultaneously on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Naturally, the announcement has fans excited for the official release date reveal, especially since it’s only been a little over six months since the initial announcement. Although Virtuos’ upcoming remake has been rumored and/or teased for quite some time already.

If we assume that Sony has exclusive marketing rights to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the soonest we can expect to hear more about it is in a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase, possibly in March, just right before FY2024. This will also give the upcoming PS5 exclusives, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, all the spotlight it needs for their respective releases on January 19 and February 29, respectively.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is widely considered Hideo Kojima’s best work. The remake, using modern technology, will allow longtime fans and newcomers to witness the birth of Snake, the renowned special forces operative, Jack, and how he went from becoming Naked Snake to, eventually, earning the moniker, Big Boss. Chronologically, MGS3 is the first game in the entire Metal Gear franchise. Thus, if Konami intends to retell the story of one of gaming’s most influential properties, it only makes sense to start from here.

Fingers crossed, Virtuos has been working on the remake for as long as the rumors claim the development has gone on so that the franchise’s fans will have a reason to celebrate for the first time years.

Speaking of Metal Gear, its creator, Hideo Kojima, confirmed that development is still ongoing for Death Stranding 2 as well as Kojima Productions’ upcoming Xbox exclusive.
