Hopeful Elden Ring fans looking forward to some news on the game’s upcoming premium expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, might finally find their enthusiasm rewarded.
A mysterious update on Steam’s backend isn’t the only reason to celebrate. Apparently, both Bandai Namco America, EU, and Southeast Asia, have all updated their Elden Ring playlists on YouTube.
There’s no way of knowing the reason behind the “mystery” update, but it wouldn’t hurt to hope, especially with the next Direct Showcase coming soon.
Bandai Namco Southeast Asia has updated their Elden Ring playlist as well… This can only mean one thing. I think it might really be time… 🙏 pic.twitter.com/glzcQpuMxu

FromSoftware announced Shadow of the Erdtree as Elden Ring celebrated its anniversary. Unfortunately, as of November 2023, the DLC is still a “little ways off.” Still, a lot can happen in month, let alone two. FromSoftware could feel confident enough to give audiences a taste of what’s coming later this week.
The relative lack of information regarding Shadow of the Erdtree have fueled speculations and discussions about what the DLC could bring to the table. The teaser images, in particular, shows a figure resembling Miquella, the brother of Malenia, who you might know as one of the most difficult bosses in gaming.
It’s widely speculated that cursed Empyrean will play a central role in the upcoming expansion. Considering much of the story purposely obscures details about Miquella’s past despite his significance aside from his creation of the Haligtree, it’s possible that FromSoftware had reserved this for the DLC. If true, this could mean that a portion of Shadow of the Erdtree could take players to the past. Then again, with the image showing what looks like a burned version of the Erdtree, the DLC could be set in the future.
FromSoftware hasn’t confirmed if it has more expansions planned for Elden Ring following Shadow of the Erdtree, but the studio has released multiple expansions for most of its Soulsborne games, except for Bloodborne. Furthermore, its publisher, Bandai, has already revealed that it has plans to expand Elden Ring and this was before it made history as one of the most GOTY’d games of all time. This could mean that more expansions and updates for Elden Ring are in store before its eventual sequel.
