Your adventures in the Lands Between aren't over yet. Elden Ring, the best-selling FromSoftware game will finally be getting an expansion. Fans have been waiting for this moment for many months now, in the wake of the brutal dark fantasy RPG's success.
Elden Ring celebrated its first anniversary a few days ago. Many expected FromSoftware to drop new content to commemorate the launch of 2022’s Game of the Year - instead the studio did something better by announcing a new expansion on its official Twitter account.
"Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together," FromSoftware tweeted. "An upcoming expansion for [Elden Ring] Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between."

FromSoftware also published a short blog post stating that Shadow of the Erdtree is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The studio did not have additional details - like a release date - in the post, but we expect more information about the new expansion soon.
While the plot of Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has not yet been revealed, FromSoftware did drop one very important clue. The artwork for the upcoming expansion features a person riding a horse. This person has long golden hair and is assumed to be Miquella.
Players have surely heard the name of the young Empyrean from his twin sister Malenia. The Goddess of Rot introduces herself with the now famous line "Heed my words. I am Malenia. Blade of Miquella. And I have never known defeat."
Alternatively, gamers may have also encountered the cocooned body of Miquella during the battle with Mohg, Lord of Blood. According to the lore, Mohg stole Miquella away from the Haligtree in an attempt to elevate the Empyrean to godhood and become his consort.
While players can encounter Miquella’s seemingly lifeless body inside the cocoon, Sir Gideon Ofnir confirms that he is alive and only asleep. Dataminers have previously found cut content about Miquella and Saint Trina. Fans speculate that the expansion will add more to their story and possibly have them appear in the game.
We assume that after the events of Elden Ring, Miquella somehow awakens from his long slumber and will be central to the plot of the expansion. We can also see the partially burned Erdtree in the distance.
Interestingly, Malenia refers to her brother as the most fearsome demi-god there is. Malenia is already a very formidable opponent that many players have struggled to defeat. It is scary to think what Miquella is capable of.
Hopefully, FromSoftware will share details soon about the plot and release date of the expansion. We're sure a lot of fans are excited to venture back into the Lands Between and continue the story of the Tarnished.
