MultiVersus open beta is shutting down ahead of launch

Huynh continued by breaking down the reasons for closing the open beta of MultiVersus and that they will study the feedback they received from Season 1 and Season 2 and use it to improve the game's content in the future:

We know there's still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. We'll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game. To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we'll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.

Huynh added that the current players will be unable to access the online modes and features. However, there will be a limited access to the training room (aka The Lab) and local matches. Characters and cosmetic items will also be accessible for these latter modes.

The CEO also assured players that all their progress and unlocked content will be carried over when the game returns sometime next year. Plus, additional toons will be revealed as the full release approaches. So expect more new challengers joining the Justice League, Adventure Time, the Scooby Gang,

Rick and Morty

, Steven Universe, and Game of Thrones when MultiVersus launches in 2024.

MultiVersus will remain available for download and installation until April 4, 2023 and remain playable on the Sony Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Store.
