“Fatality! Johnny Cage wins. Flawless Victory.” Such is the iconic victory cry that Mortal Kombat fans can expect to hear when NetherRealm Studios finally releases the much-awaited reboot, Mortal Kombat 1, that will feature fan-favorite character Johnny Cage.
During this year’s EVO fighting game tournament, players got the chance to experience Mortal Kombat 1 and test out some of the characters that will be available in the upcoming game. Luckily, Mortal Kombat nerd @DaIslandBoyz on Twitter was among the fortunate few who got their hands on Johnny Cage and tried out his impressive moves, including his brutal yet flashy fatality.

In the vicious fatality, Johnny Cage captures his opponent in a selfie, only to slam their face onto a plaque with his name on it while flawlessly performing a 180-degree split. He then pulls up his opponent’s head, leaving their face on the ground, as he takes yet another selfie, which is accompanied by the message, “YouGotCAGEd.”
Keen Mortal Kombat fans may have caught a fleeting glimpse of this gruesome fatality in the official gameplay trailer, but now we’ve gotten a full first look at it. Staying true to his flashy and flamboyant nature, Mortal Kombat 1 promises to showcase an array of brutal Cage fatalities once the game hits shelves next month. For those eagerly awaiting the game’s release, there’s good news: a closed beta is on the horizon.
PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can access the beta by preordering any of the Mortal Kombat 1 editions. The beta phase is scheduled to run from August 18 to August 21. Players will gain access to a restricted roster that includes Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Johnyn Cage, Kitana, and Li Mei, with Kameo fighters that include Kano, Jax, Frost, and Sonya.
The beta will offer gameplay on two stages: The Teahouse and Johnny Cage’s Mansion, while the single-player Klassic Towers game mode will allow players to face off against AI opponents.
The official launch is scheduled for September 19 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
