Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2023. However, developer Insomniac Games hasn’t provided a definitive release date despite assuring fans it will arrive later this year.
Now, Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker in the single-player action-adventure title has given fans hope. In a recent Ask Me Anything session on r/Skybound for Skybound Games’ Homestead Arcana, which he also stars in, the actor implied that the game is near completion, which is a departure from his comments in January that he still has a little bit of work to do on it.
During the session, the fan asked if Lowenthal is done with his voice work for the video game. The veteran voice actor responded with the words, “Yup! Can’t wait for you to play it.” The same user asked yet another question seeking to know if he was done with his motion capture for the title to which he responded “Yup! All done!” Lowenthal did not provide any further detail about the title.
Unfortunately, Lowenthal backtracked on his comments. A couple of hours later, another fan, this time on Twitter, asked if he was done with the voice work and motion capture for the game same question on Twitter and he responded, “No. We still have TONS more to do.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been in the works for some time. However, there has been little to no information on the title apart from the announcement trailer that was released in 2021. While Insomniac Games recently reassured fans that the title is still on track for a 2023 release, their failure to release another trailer or provide more details has not inspired confidence from fans.
While Lowenthal’s original comments inspired hope that all is well with the game, his latter comments dispelled that hope. However, fans will be hoping his earlier comments better reflect the situation and that the follow-up comments were an attempt at deflection.
By the way, Lowenthal is not the only Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 voice actor to have spoken about the release date. Last month, Tony Todd, who voices the game’s villain Venom, stated on Twitter that the game will likely arrive this September after a massive marketing campaign in August.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled to arrive in the fall of 2023. The title is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console.
