We’ve got good news for those who are looking forward to seeing Marvel’s first family hit the big screen: the Fantastic Four reboot will start filming in January in London.
The Hollywood Reporter’s recent update aligns with a statement by the film’s new director, Matt Shakman. Previously, Jon Watts, who’s perhaps best known for directing the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, was tapped to helm the film before dropping out. Watts is now working on Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which premieres later this year, and is the co-producer of Final Destination 6 alongside his wife.
The Fantastic Four reboot is set to start filming in January in London, directed by Matt Shakman, and is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
Unfortunately, while this is good news, the same report notes this all depends on how long the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike will last.
The strike has already pushed Marvel Studios to postpone Blade indefinitely. If the strike lasts longer, Marvel might have to postpone Fantastic Four, although insiders believe this is highly unlikely.
Several MCU projects are currently starting production or are already close to wrapping things up like Captain America: New World Order, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Deadpool 3.
Marvel’s upcoming slate of films and shows has faced several challenges, including a marked decline in VFX quality as well as production issues.
The Fantastic Four reboot is scheduled to kick off Phase Six on February 14, 2025.
Fans are eager for more updates and announcements for Fantastic Four. The current rumors suggest Marvel Studios has already signed Adam Driver as the Reed Richards of Earth-616. Other reports claim Margot Robbie will play Sue Storm with Paul Mescal sitting on an offer to be Human Torch. Mila Kunis, who was previously rumored as Sue Storm, claims to know the main cast of Fantastic Four already, which is why fans are wondering if Marvel is just waiting for the perfect moment to reveal the lineup.
There’s so much uncertainty surrounding the MCU’s take on comic book royalty but Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, has confirmed before that it isn’t going to be another origin story.
