A year after the announcement of the long-awaited Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series, Disney+ has finally shared a first look at the Amblin-style coming-of-age show.
Directed by Jon Watts and featuring Jude Law in a prominent role as a Jedi, the upcoming space-adventure series unveiled images and a first glimpse of footage at the Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London, running from April 7 to 10. Although the trailer is light on plot details, it showcases a group of young characters stranded in space before a Jedi comes to their aid on their interstellar journey.
Taking place in the same time period as The Mandalorian and after the events of The Return of the Jedi, the series began filming in September of last year and wrapped up in January. The cast is largely composed of up-and-coming actors, such as Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, and Kerry Condon.
The showrunners for the series will be Jon Watts and Chris Ford, with producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni on board. Academy Award-winning filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are slated to direct select episodes alongside David Lowery, Jake Schreier, and Bryce Dallas Howard. However, Disney+ has yet to disclose the release date.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is just one of many upcoming projects set in the Star Wars universe that Disney has in store. In May, the second season of the animated series Star Wars: Visions will debut, followed by the release of the Ahsoka series in August, which unveiled a teaser trailer during the Star Wars Celebration. Fans can also anticipate the release of Star Wars: Rebels, The Acolyte, and season two of Andor in the future.
Other upcoming Star Wars projects include Dawn of the Jedi, New Jedi Order, and The Mandalorian movie.
