As part of the series' 20th-anniversary celebrations on Sunday, Square Enix held a live presentation in Tokyo. Although there was a lot that went on during the showcase, the biggest news is the announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV.
The latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 confirms the return of the iconic trio of Sora, Donald, and Goofy as they return for another adventure in what Square Enix is referring to as the Lost Master Arc. From what we've seen in the trailer, Kingdom Heart 4 will take place in a Tokyo-like city, Quadratum, which the publisher describes as a "gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the Kingdom Hearts series." In addition to a unique setting, Kingdom Hearts 4 will also introduce a new character in Strelitzia.
Unfortunately, Square Enix did not confirm when Kingdom Hearts 4 is going to come out. However, the earlier Nvidia GeForce leak "revealed" that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be here by September 2023.
In the meantime, Square Enix will tide fans over with the less-hyped Kingdom Hearts mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Missing Link. The spin-off will feature battles against the Heartless in Scala ad Caelum, a new world introduced in Kingdom Hearts 3. Kingdom Hearts Missing Link will feature a new and original story that will also tie into Kingdom Hearts 4.
