We all knew John Cena would come back to compete in the squared circle before the end of the year if only to continue his streak of WWE appearances for the 20th consecutive year. At the time, just how it will happen was the subject of speculation. Now, we know when the sixteen-time world champion will make his highly anticipated WWE return and who he'll be fighting against, and let us tell you, it's the best way to end the year.

The 45-year-old transitioned into a full-time role in Hollywood following the success of his string of movies last year, including The Suicide Squad. The premiere and the subsequent success of Peacemaker, which resulted in a follow-up season, potential spin-offs, and quite possibly, a larger role in the new DC Universe, all but casted doubt on whether Cena will be able to keep his streak alive. But, with the most recent announcement, Cena's streak is safe, and fans can look forward to watching him square up against Roman Reigns.

Cena announced that he'll be the unlikely partner of Kevin Owens against Sami Zayn and the reigning WWE Undisputed Universal Champion in a tag team match on December 30, the final episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
