Is the Knights of the Old Republic Remake for the PS5 canceled?

The Prince of Persia Remake by Ubisoft is another long-gestating title that recently switched development studios as well.

Ever since it was first announced, all that the development team has to switch for the KOTOR Remake is a trailer that's more of a teaser than anything. We still don't know just how much of the first game from two decades ago will remain and how much it will change.

Whatever the KOTOR Remake will look like, it's clearly giving its developers a headache.

The worst-case scenario here is the KOTOR Remake isn't canceled or delayed. Just like Quantic Dream's upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars: Eclipse, the KOTOR Remake is in the works without a release date. So, technically, you can't delay a game that the developers didn't reveal when it will be coming out.

Most likely, Asypr Media and/or Saber Interactive underestimated the scope of the KOTOR Remake and it needs more time to work on the game.

It was recently revealed that the budget for AAA games in recent years has ballooned compared to five or so years ago. If work on the KOTOR Remake only started during the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic, the budget and the timeline might have changed a lot. Thus, the KOTOR Remake might not have been canceled but it could very well be stuck in development for at least the next two to three years if not longer.

TLDR; the KOTOR Remake is likely still very much on the docket but don't expect it to come out anytime soon.

In the meantime, Star Wars fans can look forward to other Star Wars games coming out soon, including Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars project that might be released as early as this fiscal year.
