One of the best Star Wars games is going next-gen

Once again, the rumor mill continues to prove that some of the info it churns out is true.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a game way ahead of its time. Many consider it one of the best Star Wars games and RPGs ever. In addition to the gameplay and the then-unusual freedom to actually make decisions, the game's plot twist remains one of the biggest shocks in gaming history. The game also served as further proof that BioWare' had a knack for narrative-heavy role-playing games, which later led to the creation of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, among others.

According to Aspyr Media, it is going to remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic from the ground up. The studio added that the remake's development team boasts the talents of "industry veterans" that are "working in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games".

Aspyr Media's name has been linked with the modern remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for quite some time now. One of the earliest reports came back in late January earlier this year, which was confirmed by Jason Schreier just a little over a week later. A few months later, Schreier once again confirmed that a remake of KOTOR is in the works. However, none of the rumors suggested that the KOTOR remake was going to be exclusive to the PlayStation 5.

With that said, it's not all bad news for the non-PS5 owners out there. The KOTOR remake is going to be a timed exclusive for the PS5. This means that it's going to be available on other platforms in the future. The only question is, when?

Speaking of, Aspyr Media nor Sony confirmed a release window let alone a release date for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake. Going back to the earlier announcement, Aspyr explained that the remake is still "early in development". This suggests that it might take a while before the KOTOR remake drops on PS5 consoles, and even longer on other platforms.

In the meantime, Star Wars fans can keep themselves busy playing a brand-new expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic and the next-gen update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
