Guerilla Games finally releases Horizon Forbidden West footage on the PS4

It's safe to say that fans don't have to worry too much about Horizon Forbidden West running badly on the PlayStation 4.

Forbidden West was always going to look better on the PS5, but it doesn't look a lot worse on the PS4 either.

The PlayStation 4 has been around for a while. When it was first released in 2013, Guerilla Games was still known for making the PlayStation-exclusive shooter franchise, Killzone. So, you’d understand why some fans were concerned when Guerilla confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West was going to be released on both the PS5 and the PS4. It certainly didn’t help that Guerilla took its time sweet time dropping footage of Forbidden West running on the nearly-decades-old console.

Thankfully, PS4 owners can now rest easy with Forbidden West looking mighty fine on the base PS4 model.

Guerilla has done an excellent job unraveling everything that there is to know about Forbidden West ahead of its February 18 release. In recent months, audiences have gotten a look at all the tribes of Forbidden West and the game’s all-star voice cast. Guerilla also released photos of Forbidden West taken on a PS4 before dropping gameplay footage from a PS4 Pro.

For its latest reveal, Guerilla went the PS4 route. Unfortunately, the clip of Forbidden West running on the PS4 is just 22 seconds long. But, it does show enough of Forbidden West on Sony’s older console to guarantee players that the game will look gorgeous regardless of the platform. Hopefully, Guerilla releases more extensive gameplay footage in the coming days. Specifically, audiences would love to see Aloy in action in a more dense environment against some of Forbidden West’s lumbering enemies on a PS4.

Suffice to say that Sony is kicking off 2022 on a good note. Back in January, Sony released the PC port of 2018’s God of War with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection finally hitting the PS5. Meanwhile, Gran Turismo 7 was the highlight of Sony’s first State of Play event this year as it gets ready to race past its competition on March 4. Finally, Uncharted is set to hit theaters on February 18 as well.

A successful follow-up in Forbidden West could pave the way for a third game as well as spin-offs.

Outside of what Sony has planned for the next few months, we’ve also gotten wind of what the console manufacturer intends to do down the line. After acquiring Bungie, Sony announced that it wants to release 10 live-service games by 2026.

Having said that, we’re certainly hoping that Sony also has a plan to address the PS5 shortage outside of just continuing to manufacture PS4 consoles.
