Hogwarts Legacy's meteoric rise doesn't seem to be slowing down a week after the game was officially released.

According to Cristopher Dring, who is a credible and respected member of the gaming industry, Hogwarts Legacy's digital sales exceed Elden Ring's digital first-week sales by a staggering 56%. This makes Hogwarts Legacy the biggest game to launch in Europe outside of FIFA and Call of Duty since Red Dead Redemption 2 was released back in 2018.

Some might argue that it's unfair to compare the success of these two titles, given the catalog preceding Hogwarts Legacy. Elden Ring might be a new IP but it's a game made by FromSoftware with the help of George R.R. Martin. As a result, Elden Ring enjoyed a massive launch last February and went on to become one of the best-selling games in recent years, en route to winning Game of the Year over God of War: Ragnarok at the 2022 Game Awards as well as becoming the most GOTY'ed title of all time.
