During the recent New York Comic-Con, Westworld creator Jonathan Nolan revealed that he and his co-creator had always planned for a fifth and final season to wrap up the series and give it a befitting ending. Unfortunately, it seems they won't get that chance as HBO has decided to not renew the show for another season.

In a recent statement, the streaming platform stated it has decided to cancel the series. It praised the series' creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, for taking viewers on a mind-bending journey over Westworld's four seasons and expressed gratitude for their work.

Westworld debuted on HBO in 2016 to impressive ratings from critics and audiences alike. The series set several records, including the most viewership for any HBO original series' debut season. Unfortunately, it could not retain its audience with viewership dropping to a record low during the recent fourth season.

Notwithstanding, diehard fans of the series will be greatly disappointed especially since some were hoping for a spinoff as evidenced by a conversation between Joy and ComicBook.com.
