Many gamers were intrigued by The Day Before, initially advertised as a survival horror MMO, by indie studio Fntastic. However, as the game continues to receive negative reviews on Steam, the developer is seemingly deleting references that the title was an MMO.
The Day Before was released just a few days ago and has had a myriad of issues ranging from inaccessible servers to bugs and performance problems. The game is currently one of Steam’s worst-reviewed games after many players have complained that it isn’t an MMO at all. The survival horror game has been called a scam by a lot of users who bought the title in early access.
Fntastic is now gradually updating the game’s Steam page to remove evidence that The Day Before is an MMO. This follows the reviews that players have given saying that the game is more structured as an extraction shooter rather than an open-world MMO as the studio initially advertised.

As of December 10, just three days after the game was launched, Fntastic updated the Steam page several times. As per its SteamDB, the studio removed the “realistic”, “open world survival craft”, and “free to play” tags for the game. The “massively multiplayer” tag has been replaced with “single player” and “extraction shooter.” The Day Before had the “massively multiplayer” tag a day before it was released.
Users do influence what tags are shown for a game on Valve’s digital storefront. If enough players submit a tag, it will be added to the game’s official metadata. However, the tag list can be edited by the developer at any given time. It explains why the “realistic” and “building” tags have been constantly added to the game.
Interestingly, Fntastic also removed several videos from the game’s official YouTube page as the game launched in early access. One of the most notable videos that was removed from the page was the initial gameplay trailer for the survival horror shooter that showcased powerhouse visuals courtesy of Unreal Engine. Many have called the video a “vertical slice,” a small functional portion of the game developed as a proof of concept. Gamers have noted that the visuals shown in the first gameplay is vastly different from the one seen in the early access. The official Discord server for The Day Before has also reportedly been temporarily locked down ahead of release.
The Day Before currently has a 21% positive score on Steam which is the 9th worst. It joins Overwatch 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and NBA 2K24 in the top ten worst-rated games on the storefront.
It is worth noting that The Day Before is still an early-access title. There is still hope that Fntastic will turn things around for the game in the next months or years.
