Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster gets a console release date

Square Enix announced that the Final Fantasy game compilation is coming to consoles outside of the Xbox release date.

The complete set includes the first six Final Fantasy games.

Square Enix is finally releasing its collection of Final Fantasy games on the Switch and PS4 a year after the collection was released on PC and mobile devices.

Square Enix officially announced that the console ports for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster are coming this spring. This new collection includes the first six games of the popular role-playing game series.

The first three games that are part of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection were released in the summer of 2021 on Steam and mobile. Square Enix followed this up by releasing the remaster for Final Fantasy 4 and Final Fantasy 5  a few months later. Final Fantasy 6 was released on February 2022.

The incremental release of games in the collection gave gamers the best experience possible with the collection. The console ports were announced last December just as Square Enix celebrated the 35th anniversary of the franchise.

The Anniversary Edition is loaded with goodies including a two-piece vinyl set and an art book.

As part of the celebration, Square Enix is also releasing a collectible Anniversary Edition that comes with some additional goodies. The premium version of the game includes all six Final Fantasy titles in one disc or cartridge, complete with a bonus lenticular sleeve. The bundle also includes a two-disc vinyl record set featuring newly arranged music from the games, a 128-page hardcover artbook showcasing the unique pixel art of the series, and eight pixel character figurines standing three inches tall. The Anniversary Edition comes packaged in a special box adorned with character pixel art from all six titles.

The six-game collection and anniversary edition are now available for pre-order on the Nintendo Switch, costing $74.99 and $259.99 respectively. Players can also opt to purchase individual games which are priced between $11.99 and $17.99 per title. The PS4 version of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will be available for pre-order at a later date.

The announcement of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch ports of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster was well-received by fans and the physical copy of the game was sold out in record time. Players on the Switch are particularly happy with the port as the games are well suited for the handheld console.

It is unclear why Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is not coming to the Xbox.

Gamers have noticed the Xbox is noticeably absent from the console ports of the Final Fantasy collection. It is uncertain why the game was not ported to the Microsoft console. Fans of the titles on the Xbox console have been disappointed that the collection is not coming to the platform.

The move also adds more tension between Microsoft and Sony. The tech giant has pointed out that the PlayStation has more exclusives than Xbox in its argument for the approval of its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Sony has countered by saying that Microsoft has made upcoming Bethesda titles exclusive to its platform after saying that it does not intend to do so.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is currently available for PC and mobile and is coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Spring 2023.
