Few Final Fantasy games are on Xbox. Thankfully, Square Enix has since opened the door for hopeful players with the impending release of Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox consoles. Now, it appears that Final Fantasy 16, among others, could be next.
According to Speshal Nick, Square and Xbox are working on porting Final Fantasy 16 to Xbox Series S/X. He adds that his source is the same one that revealed to him that Visions of Mana would be part of the recently concluded Xbox Developer Direct Showcase. Finally, the insider clarified that FF16’s arrival on Xbox is the game that the internet misquoted him on when he said it “would set the internet on fire.”
Unfortunately, Speshal Nick couldn’t confirm when this Xbox port of FF16 would arrive, but it’s unlikely to be soon.

FF16 was one of last year’s best-selling and most loved games, which is saying a lot when the rest of the field is made up of Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While it didn’t get nominated for GOTY, it did push the franchise forward, experimenting with a mature narrative and action-oriented gameplay elements, all the while flirting with controversy. It was one of the best-selling games at launch on PS5 and continued to sell well despite the backlash.
While a release on Xbox Series S/X would certainly help with Square’s ongoing financial troubles and is in line with its renewed commitment in the Final Fantasy franchise, fans shouldn’t expect news within the year.
At the moment, Square Enix is laser focused on releasing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PlayStation 5 on February 29. After this, it’s either FF14’s launch on Xbox that’s next or FF16’s DLC, the Rising Tide, which is expected to add nearly a dozen hours to its narrative and possibly even change the ending. With FF16’s PC port likely taking precedence over its arrival on a “competing” platform, the earliest FF16 could arrive on Xbox is in 2025.
As for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we aren’t expecting it to be available on Xbox until at least after the entire remake trilogy is done and over with, which isn’t until much later this decade.
TLDR; Final Fantasy 16 might indeed be coming to Xbox, just don’t expect it anytime soon.
Fingers crossed though, FF16 will be available to play on Xbox ahead of the official reveal of Final Fantasy 17, which, as per Naoki Yoshida, should be developed by a younger creative. If we’re lucky, it will be on Xbox at launch.
