At this point last year, fans were eagerly awaiting more news about Resident Evil Village, the latest installment in Capcom's venerated seminal survival-horror franchise. Since then, the Japanese video game developer and publisher has released a handful of big games, but with several properties under its belt, fans felt that the studio could have done more.

Fast forward to today and hopeful fans are thinking that Capcom is gearing up for what could potentially be a heavier slate of games for 2022, as evidenced by an official countdown.

If you head on over to the official Capcom Games website, there is a separate page, Capcom Countdown, which, as the title suggests, counts down to zero later this week. Curiously enough, Capcom hasn't officially announced anything about the countdown, so all we know for now is that it's going to end in a couple of days. But, despite the relative lack of information, fans have been busy discussing what the countdown is for, such as an eventual reveal for the highly-anticipated Resident Evil Village DLC and/or confirmation of the long-rumored Resident Evil 4 remake.

Capcom held a Resident Evil showcase last year dedicated exclusively to the survival-horror franchise. With several other potential Resident Evil titles in development, including Resident Evil Outrage and Netflix's Resident Evil Cerberus, on top of what we've already mentioned, we wouldn't be surprised if the countdown is for an upcoming event is a celebration of the Resident Evil franchise.
