Just in case you’ve missed it, pre-orders for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have gone live, as promised.
Unfortunately, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to play smoothly on Sony’s flagship console in October, the pre-order process is anything but.
In particular, fans are complaining about the cumbersome and exclusive means of getting your hands on the game’s most expensive variant.

At $230, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition isn’t cheap. But, for the price, you do get a whole lot of goodies like a 19-inch statue of a humongous Venom fending off the game’s protagonists, Peter and Miles. It comes with an exclusive steel book case as well as a Digital Deluxe Edition copy of the game.
In an ideal scenario, people would be complaining about the lack of a physical disc and how you’ll have to download the entire game from scratch ahead of its release.
However, just as Sony opened its digital doors to welcome the onslaught of pre-orders, fans have taken to social media platforms to express their frustration with Sony’s poor handling of the preorders.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition is exclusively available on the PlayStation Direct store, which, as of the time of writing, asks you to wait from anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour, just to get a chance to put in your payment details and pre-order the $230 copy of the PS5-exclusive title.
Unfortunately, the problems don’t end with the long wait. Fans have reported challenges when trying to place their orders, with error messages and site crashes being common complaints. These issues have not only frustrated fans but have also raised questions about Sony’s preparedness to handle high demand and the effectiveness of PlayStation Direct as a platform for exclusive releases.
While these challenges could potentially dampen enthusiasm for the game, they also highlight the extremely high demand and eagerness of fans for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The original Marvel’s Spider-Man game was hailed as one of the best superhero games of its time, delivering an engaging narrative, responsive gameplay mechanics, and a beautiful recreation of New York City for Spider-Man to swing through. With this sequel, Insomniac Games has the opportunity to build on the success of the first game and further cement its reputation as a leading developer in the superhero genre.
As fans navigate through the technical glitches and anxiously wait for their chance to play, it’s clear that the anticipation surrounding the game remains strong.
Final Fantasy 16, another PS5 exclusive that comes out on June 22, is currently topping sales charts in Japan just days ahead of its release after repeatedly running out of copies of its most expensive edition to sell.
Both Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16 reaffirm the PS5 as the go-to console for groundbreaking exclusives.
