EA Motive’s recent Dead Space remake was a faithful recreation of a sci-fi horror classic that ultimately paved the way for future remakes of the series’ other entries, both literally and figuratively. Following its commercial and critical success, EA is already thinking of remaking the rest of the franchise.
Game developer Dillon Rogers shared on Twitter that he received a survey from EA gauging his interest about a “similar remake” of Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3.
The original Dead Space trilogy concluded in 2013, right around the same time that EA went all-in on microtransactions in its games. Dead Space 3, in particular, didn’t sell very well, further reinforcing EA’s beliefs about the “death” of single-player titles. However, now that the market has proven EA and other publishers wrong, the path is clear for remakes of Dead Space 2 and 3.
Pfft. The survey EA is sending out. On the wall – the writing. pic.twitter.com/o2f1OPC1zM

What made EA Motive’s remake of the first Dead Space game so successful is it expanded on the content of the original game. The secret ending, specifically, helps connect the first game better to a potential sequel.
Should a remake of Dead Space 2 happen, we’re expecting EA Motive to take a similar direction.
This begs the question, will EA Motive revisit its original ideas for Dead Space 3 in an eventual remake? Dead Space 3 was criticized for deviating from the first two games. Those involved in its development have also revealed it had to cut huge chunks of content. Apparently, Dead Space 3 was supposed to continue Isaac Clarke’s slow and gradual descent into psychosis. This is a concept that the Dead Space remake has already explored.
At the end of the day, remakes of Dead Space 2 and 3 will have to wait until EA Motive is finished working on its Iron Man game.
We highly doubt EA will risk giving the keys to the Dead Space franchise to one of its subsidiaries after EA Motive did such a great job with the first one.
In the meantime, psychological horror fans have plenty to look forward to with remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 on the way.
