Who would've thought that we wouldn't have to wait several years to get a chance to play what's arguably the best game of this young decade? We already knew we had something special when Elden Ring came out earlier this year. But, after winning publicized two GOTY awards in Japan and in Los Angeles earlier this year, a recent tally shows us just how truly special Elden Ring can be as a game.

According to GameAwards.net (via ResetEra), Elden Ring has won 149 GOTY awards from Media Outlets this year and the number keeps on growing by the day. The runner-up is, of course, God of War: Ragnarok, with a mere 28 GOTY awards from Media Outlets. Elden Ring won more than a hundred GOTY awards than its closest competition. This means that it's the best game of the year by a landslide.

Kyle Key's GOTY awards tracker is widely considered the most accurate and objective GOTY tracker available online. It's tallied GOTY votes since 2003 and what Elden Ring has done is very rare. It's one of the few GOTY awardees to have more than 100 votes compared to the runner-up. Since 2011, this has only happened four other times. Also, it's the first game by FromSoftware to ever win this many awards. Previously, FromSoftware's most-awarded title was Bloodborne, which received 26 GOTY awards from media outlets in 2015.
