FromSoftware’s next game is Armored Core VI and, as of the moment, one more DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree. But, if we believe a recent rumor, the award-winning studio’s next game is a “spiritual successor” to one of its most beloved titles.
According to a 4chan post, FromSoftware is working on a new game called “Spellbound” that’s scheduled to release in Q1 of 2025. The source adds that FromSoftware could reveal Spellbound at The Game Awards in December but the full trailer might not be available until next summer, presumably right around the Summer Game Fest. Finally, the user is claiming that FromSoftware has worked on the game since mid-2021 with Hidetaki Miyazaki himself taking the helm and that it will be a self-published game for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
A rumor suggests that FromSoftware’s next game could be ‘Spellbound,’ a spiritual successor focusing on magic and action gameplay in an open-world setting, potentially releasing in Q1 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
The timeline for Spellbound would somewhat mirror Elden Ring. At least, the part that the first official reveal happened at a Summer Game Fest although it was confirmed two years earlier at E3 2019.
However, unlike Elden Ring, Spellbound will see FromSoftware go back to its Soulsborne roots but with more emphasis on magic and a focus on the action aspect of the gameplay and less on RPG.
From the leaked details, we can tell FromSoftware will double down on the open-world element after Elden Ring. It’s said SpellBound will have a massive dungeon with a city inside where the game’s events will happen and an open world beyond for you to explore.
The leaker explains that, while Spellbound has a huge map, it should still be “slightly smaller” compared to Elden Ring.
The source is a massive info dump that may or may not be real. And, while most would say that it’s too detailed to turn out to be false, you won’t believe the lengths some people will go to for the sake of whatever they think is fun.
One Reddit user summed up Spellbound best when they said, “Someone played Hogwarts and wrote some Fromsoft fan fiction.”
We highly doubt FromSoftware’s next big AAA title will be ready by 2025, especially in light of recent revelations. It’s likely sitting on at least one more massive DLC for Elden Ring aside from Shadow of the Erdtree. This doesn’t include Armored Core VI either. The latest mainline Armored Core entry could get extensive post-launch support depending on how well it sells on August 25.
But, on the offchance that the leak is true, we’re genuinely curious to find out how a FromSoftware game that’s exclusive to current-gen consoles would look.
Until then, please join us and others in wishing that FromSoftware will reconsider releasing a PS5 patch for Bloodborne.
