There was early speculation that the reason the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 is free is to make up for the game’s disastrous launch and all the major setbacks encountered by Cyberpunk 2077. However, this is not the case; Phantom Liberty will be coming with a price tag, but we don’t know how much.

Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a massive revival as of late, as the game recently beat the Steam record of Witcher 3 for the most concurrent players.

With the game’s recent surge in popularity, CD Projekt Red has been working on an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Phantom Liberty will be the first and only expansion that is on the roadmap for the once-troubled AAA title.

Unfortunately, CDPR’s global PR director Radek Grabowski confirmed to GamesRadar that the game will be a paid DLC, saying:

As for the expansion’s pricing – we have not revealed exact details yet, but it will be a paid one.”

While the actual price tag has not yet been confirmed, we know it will be less than the $60 that gamers paid for the base game. Grabowski stated that “our expansions are traditionally cheaper than full-price games.”

The expansion will be set in a new district of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the only expansion planned for the game and it’s set to launch next year.

According to the studio, the new DLC will be a “spy-thriller expansion” and will be “set in an all-new district of Night City.” Fans will surely be excited for a new district to be added to the already massive open world of the game.

There is speculation that the new district will be the Pacific Combat Zone. It’s a walled-off area located in the southwestern portion of the map. A handful of NPCs also mention that the NCPD is disposing of dangerous criminals in the combat zone. It’s been confirmed that Sasha Grey will voice a new character in the expansion: Ash, who is a DJ for the in-game radio station, 89.7 Growl FM.

Finally, as per CDPR, Phantom Liberty is exclusive to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This means that patch 1.6 will be the last major update for previous-gen consoles. The studio is focusing its attention on the current-gen with Cyberpunk 2077 and the upcoming Witcher 3 port.

After the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red will be turning its attention towards a sequel for the game. The studio will also be working on The Witcher 4, codenamed Project Orion.
