Cyberpunk 2077 was planned to be CD Projekt RED's next big IP. The game had been in development for the better part of the past decade before its release and expectations were high leading up to it. Hype even moreso. Not even a delay was enough to get players to suspect that something was going to go wrong.
Then again, this good faith might have been due to CDPR's reputation as one of the "good guys" in the video game industry. The Polish video game developers made a name for themselves with The Witcher games, which they famously did not use anti-piracy software due to their anti-DRM stance.
Unfortunately, despite having had years to work on the game, Cyberpunk 2077 was a mess at launch.
There's no other way to describe just how badly the game bombed when it was released in late 2020. Even PCs with the best graphics cards struggled to run it and when it did run, it was riddled with bugs and problems that continue to plague it until today.
So, you'd think that a little less than a year later, CDPR has given up on Cyberpunk 2077, but you'd be wrong.
