The Witcher TV series DLC is headed to The Witcher 3 soon

CD Projekt RED just announced that The Witcher 3 is getting new DLC, more than five years after it was first released.

It looks like CD Projekt RED isn't finished with The Witcher 3 just yet.

CD Projekt RED is releasing free DLC content for The Witcher 3 based on the Netflix TV show as part of the game's next-gen update.

More than five years after the award-winning and critically-acclaimed open-world RPG title was released, The Witcher 3 video game will be getting free DLC based on The Witcher TV series.

When is the new The Witcher 3 DLC coming?

Netflix's The Witcher TV series (or, at least, parts of it) is headed to The Witcher 3 soon.

The Witcher series of games is what put CD Projekt RED on the proverbial map. The Witcher 3, in particular, is the studio's best-selling game.

While the CD Projekt RED can attribute its success to The Witcher 3, it's not like the studio hasn't done the series right. Back in 2015, the Polish devs became the darlings of the gaming community after it basically let pirates download its game for free while other developers were busy trying to incorporate anti-piracy measures into their games. In addition to this, CD Projekt RED also released more than a dozen pieces of DLC content for The Witcher 3 for free, along with a couple of paid expansions that were easily worth a full game's price.

To say that The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of its generation is only fitting.

Perhaps this is the reason why CD Projekt RED continues to support The Witcher 3 to this day. Later this year, The Witcher 3 will be getting an official next-gen port that will include faster loading times and ray tracing, as well as all the extra content that's been released for it since.

But, that's not all. CD Projekt RED also confirmed that it's going to work closely with the modding community to bring some fan-favorite mods to The Witcher 3 once it arrives for the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5.

Most fans would've been happy already knowing that a next-gen port of The Witcher 3 was coming. However, CD Projekt RED wasn't content.

On top of making The Witcher 3 play better and look prettier for next-gen consoles, CD Projekt RED will be releasing a new DLC for The Witcher 3 that will be based on the franchise's Netflix TV series.

At the moment, we have no idea what this free content will be like. CD Projekt RED refused to reveal more information about the upcoming DLC content for The Witcher 3. The only thing that we know is that it will include content and items based on the popular Netflix TV show starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

What's next for The Witcher?

The first-ever WitcherCon did not disappoint. It revealed a lot of things coming that are based on The Witcher universe. This includes the highly-anticipated second season of Netflix's The Witcher TV series.  There is also a new mobile AR The Witcher game set to release soon, with an animated movie and even a board game in the works.

With Cyberpunk 2077 looking beyond redemption at this point despite the recent update, we wouldn't be surprised if CD Projekt RED decides to announce that a new The Witcher game is coming soon.
