Call of Duty may be returning to Black Ops for 2024 based on a leaked video

Popular Call of Duty insider RalphsValve shared a cryptic new video on Twitter suggesting that the next game will be returning to the Black Ops subseries.

Call of Duty 2024 may be set during the First Persian Gulf War.

We have very little information about the upcoming Call of Duty 2023 game being made by Sledgehammer Games. But, a month or two ahead of its expected reveal, we’re getting new information about next year’s installment, presumably by Treyarch.

Activision Blizzard typically cycles between three studios for its Call of Duty series games. Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which was released last year. This year’s title will be from Sledgehammer Games while the 2024 game will be made by Treyarch, according to previously leaked information.

A popular Call of Duty leaker recently posted a video of what fans think is teasing Call of Duty 2024. Well-known insider RalphsValve shared a video of what seems to be archival footage of the first Gulf War between Coalition Forces against the invading Iraqi military forces in Kuwait.

Many fans see this new video as a teaser for the next Call of Duty game based on the events of the First Gulf War.

Treyarch’s last entry in the first-person shooter franchise was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The game featured a story set during the Cold War in the 1980s. The next sub-series entry could be set during the events of the First Persian Gulf War during the early 1990s.

However, many gamers question the reliability of RalphsValve as a leaker. According to comments on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, the insider doesn’t have a very good track record for leaked information.

RalphsValve was reportedly wrong on most of the details they shared about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Many of the game details the user shared in 2021 for Modern Warfare 2 are still not in the game today.

RalphsValve turned off comments on the cryptic video which is sort of strange.

It is also strange that the leaker disabled comments on the cryptic new video. It would seem like the insider does not want to talk about the video. In the absence of context, we can only assume that the video is alluding to a future Call of Duty game and leaves much to interpretation.

Of course, it’s also possible that Activision Blizzard isn’t satisfied with Sledgehammer Games’ output and Treyarch is getting a turn instead.

Don’t forget, Call of Duty: Vanguard was largely considered a disappointment, especially since it’s squeezed between two relatively successful entries in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War.

With that said, it remains to be seen if we’ll actually be getting a new Call of Duty entry this year.

Speaking of Call of Duty, next year’s installment may be the last title to be released on the Sony PlayStation if the ongoing stalemate with Microsoft and Activision Blizzard continues. Microsoft and the FTC are currently engaged in a preliminary injunction hearing where Phil Spencer said under oath that the company does not intend to pull Call of Duty out of Sony consoles.
