Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have been struggling with a great deal of cheating and hacking more or less ever since they were released. Players had been hoping that the release of this year's Black Ops Cold War would provide some respite from this - but if the beta is anything to go on, that won't be the case.
The beta was only accessible in two-day bursts, but already players have reported plenty of hackers.
The fight against cheaters and hackers has been an uphill battle, with Activision winning a few key victories by shutting down cheat distributors, but it isn't enough.
Without strong enough built in defenses and detection software, the problem persists. Due to cross-play being enabled by default, console players are also suffering due to hackers on PC. Already, there are recordings of blatant aimbot usage in the multiplayer beta of Cold War.
Warzone has suffered greatly due to the prevalence of cheats, and many had hoped that Activision learned the lesson. Though a different studio is developing Black Ops Cold War - Treyarch - Infinity Ward is chipping in, and they can still help advise with anti-cheating matters. That said, if the beta is an accurate representation of what kind of defenses are in place, we're looking at another long year full of cheaters.
