God of War joins a growing list of first-party PlayStation titles that are getting a live-action adaptation. Amazon landed the rights to bring the award-winning franchise to life. While a lot of franchise fans are apprehensive that the adaptation will fall short of adaptations, the Amazon Studios Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, promises that the forthcoming adaptation will remain faithful to the video game franchise.

Sanders offered this commitment during a recent interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, where he discussed his studio's film adaptation efforts. He explained that the God of War series is similar to the studio's current projects, which include The Wheel of Time, Reacher, The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power, Invincible, and The Boys.

According to him, the company's track record and experience with adaptations mean they know how to adapt God of War in the best possible way, saying: We do incredibly well with adaptations, from Invincible to The Boys. I mean, we just covered so many of them, right? And so we know that there's such a passionate fan base for God of War. But the thing that we're always looking for is whether there is a real emotional core, if there's a real narrative story, and I think [that's] part of what makes God of War so special. Sanders heaped praises on the personnel working to bring the project to life for their contributions. He stated the story will be about fathers and sons and families set against the epic landscape of the world they inhabit. He also revealed that God of War's showrunner, Rafe Judkins, as well as its writers, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, have created a brilliant story that is "incredibly true to the source material." He further said, "If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So, we think it's going to be huge."
