After Insomniac Games kickstarted the demand for video games based on Marvel Comics heroes, Marvel has spent the last couple of years releasing and announcing a slew of video games. Back in 2020, Crystal Dynamics released Marvel’s Avengers. Although the game was largely panned and mismarketed as a live-service title, it was still fairly successful and got several expansions, including Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrived this year with Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine both already confirmed.
With that said, while it’s no surprise that Marvel has lent its license to several other producers, it’s still surprising to hear what other Marvel games are coming, especially if there’s an MMORPG.
When is the AAA Marvel MMORPG going to release?
EG7 (DCUO/Everquest devs' parent company) released their Q3 '21 financials, and confirmed the unannounced AAA Marvel MMO that appeared in the GeForce Now leak and which had previously been cancelled in 2018 as the studio faced financial hardships has officially been REVIVED!! https://t.co/ho2gZcipa5 pic.twitter.com/jjVlMLHn1u

The news of the AAA Marvel MMORPG comes from a leaked presentation by EnaD Global 7 to its investors. In it, the studio detailed all of its plans for the next few years, including a confirmation that it was working on a AAA Marvel MMORPG.
What’s interesting about this game is that this is a continuation of the canceled Marvel MMORPG by Daybreak. The revival will be spearheaded by Dimensional Ink Studios with Jack Emmert in the lead. Emmert is well-versed when it comes to MMORPGs as he previously lead the team behind DC Universe Online. He also lent his expertise to the development of City of Heroes. Both of these MMORPGs lasted for years, which bodes well for the future of the AAA Marvel MMORPG.
Unfortunately, it appears that this is a long-term project. Don’t be surprised if we don’t hear more about this game until at least a couple of years.
In other Marvel Studios news, we found out in early November that the former Uncharted director is working on an unannounced AAA Marvel game. If games are not up to your speed, you can watch Marvel’s Eternals in theaters right now. Fans can also look forward to watching Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters starting on December 17, 2021.
