It hasn't even been an entire weekend ever since we got a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the rumor mill is filled already with details about the upcoming two-disc sequel.

Set to launch in early 2024, the sequel marks a significant departure from the original Final Fantasy 7 that came out on the first PlayStation. "Kiss the original story completely goodbye," insider Im a Hero Too hinted on Resetera, while adding that Zack Fair, a pivotal post-humous figure, would play a more significant role in the narrative this time around.

The introduction of Zack in Final Fantasy 7 Remake hints at the existence of a new timeline where he and Cloud survives, while the latter never joins Avalanche. But, while this is "good" news, it might create unintended sequences.

For example, without Cloud's help, Avalanche would fail in its endeavors against the Shinra Electric Power Company and subsequent attempts to thwart Sephiroth.

This potential shift in dynamics, brought on by the resurrection of Zack, is just the start of Square Enix's commitment to forging a new direction in the narrative.
