In September, PlayStation showed off its latest collection of covers and controllers for the PlayStation 5 in its latest State of Play event. The collection has three sets of bold and fanciful colors with metallic finishes and includes console covers and DualSense controllers. Sony named it the Deep Earth Collection and it made an instant impression.

Now, the collection is finally available on preorder. Starting on Wednesday, October 4, PlayStation 5 owners who want the collection can pay for the set they want, whether it’s the Volcanic Red, Sterling Silver, or Cobalt Blue set, ahead of launch later this year.

The Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue sets will launch on November 3, while the Sterling Silver will arrive on January 26, 2024.

If you’re thinking: do the new controllers have different features from the standard PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers? The answer is that they don’t. The only difference between both sets is their appearance.

Sony will sell the cover plate and the controllers separately. We think this is a great idea as it will allow gamers to mix and match different color sets and have fun with the collection. Imagine buying a Volcanic Red console cover set and a Cobalt Blue controller set.

Sony is selling the DualSense controllers for only $5 more than the standard PS5 controllers at $74.99. It’s an amazing deal if you want a non-standard DualSense. The cover plates, on the other hand, go for $59.99.

The Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue sets will arrive next month before the Sterling Silver set does in January.

For those of us who have dreamed of getting our hands on the collection since it was unveiled, the pre-order is great news. The collection has generated a lot of buzz since it was unveiled and, given the amount of work the company put into its design, we can’t say that’s a surprise.

Satoshi Aoyagi, a member of PlayStation’s design team, revealed they “drew inspiration from the beautiful and powerful hues found in the depths of planet Earth.” Given the result of that process, we can confidently say they took the right steps.

Although we think the Deep Earth Collection is a must-have for every PlayStation 5 owner, we know there’ll be those who would rather have something else. If you belong to that group, we think the Lebron James Limited Edition and the Cosmic Red collection are two excellent alternatives you should consider.
