Xolo Maridueña teases cameos for Blue Beetle

The actor teases more than one cameo in the upcoming DC Universe film, which will technically be the first of the new rebooted universe.

The Blue Beetle may have more than one cameo.

Blue Beetle will be the first superhero for the new DC Universe. It’s only fitting then that the movie will have cameos from other characters in the new franchise.

In an interview with The Wrap, Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña teased that the upcoming film will feature a handful of familiar faces. Unfortunately, the Cobra Kai star refused to reveal the identity of the characters appearing in the movie.

“I think if you’re a DC fan, there’s going to be more than just one character that you recognize,” Maridueña said. “I can tell you that.”

DC has had a lot of cameos in its recent films. Henry Cavill’s Superman made a (not so surprising) post-credit appearance in Black Adam. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman played an important part in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Maridueña said that DC fans will recognize the characters making a cameo in the movie.

The Flash had a lot of cameos from Justice League teammates including Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. The film even managed to add Nicholas Cage as Superman and featured George Clooney as the third Bruce Wayne.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to save it from the disaster that it was at the global box office, but that’s another topic for a different time.

As for Blue Beetle, the film”s director, Angel Manuel Soto, confirmed that the movie will be part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, a surprising revelation, to say the least. The old DC Extended Universe ends with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December.

“We are part of the universe, we are part of the world, we are part of the plans that they have been creating for the future installments of the DCU,” Soto said in an interview with Total Film magazine. “But we are not tied to all the films from the past. Yes, our movie lives in the world where superheroes exist. But that doesn’t mean that a certain event, or certain alliance, or certain things from the past dictate where our film is going.”

Blue Beetle is part of the DC Universe which makes the cameo important for the future of the franchise.

We’re curious to find out which DC character will appear in Blue Beetle and how the film will incorporate them. DC Studios only recently cast David Corenswet And Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane for Superman: Legacy, so it’s highly unlikely that the pair will appear in the film since it finished filming last July. Unless, of course, James Gunn had some post-production work done in secret, which isn’t impossible. However, our best guess is that it’s a character from The Suicide Squad, possibly even Peacemaker, who’s still technically part of the DCU. But, it’s possible that it will be Jay Hernandez’s El Diablo from the 2016 version of Suicide Squad given his Latino heritage.

With a long list of potential cameos, brief or long, Blue Beetle has the potential to change the narrative for DC Studios this year when it premieres in theaters on August 18.
