Fans of The Scottish Warrior have desperately missed his presence inside the squared circle ever since his last match at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals, where he and Sheamus lost to the still-reigning Intercontinental Champion, Gunther. But, while we haven’t seen Drew McIntyre grace the WWE with his presence, fans did get a pretty sweet surprise during the WWE Night of Champions.
Even though McIntyre wasn’t at the Jeddah Superdome to share with the festivities, audiences got to see him in a series of video snippets that aired on the WWE’s partner streaming platform, Peacock, after the event ended.
The video glimpses, which are typically used to fall dead air moments between shows, spotlighted a few of WWE’s top stars like Roman Reigns and Rhea Ripley.
To everyone’s surprise, McIntyre, who, as we’ve already mentioned, hasn’t been in a match for close to two months, was a part of the video.
Fans always look forward to these videos as they take audiences on a trip down memory lane, showcasing the journey of a wrestler and their achievements in the WWE so far.
However, McIntyre’s inclusion stands out for one good reason – it’s believed that the WWE and McIntyre are currently at a standstill in regard to his future within the company. Even though he’s technically drafted to the RAW brand, where many expected him to contend for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, McIntyre’s been on the sidelines for a while.
Some point to personal losses and lingering juries as possible reasons, but others hint at potential creative disagreements between McIntyre and the WWE.
In any case, these whispers have fueled speculations about a possible departure from the WWE as soon as his contract is up. But nothing is confirmed yet. This uncertainty has left McIntyre’s fans on edge, hoping this latest video appearance isn’t his last.
While the video could ultimately be just another filler on Peacock, it’s one of the few times McIntyre has been on WWE TV since his WrestleMania match. As speculations continue about his contract and future in the WWE, fans of the two-time WWE Champion are crossing their fingers that this isn’t the final bow for the man that Vince McMahon once dubbed as “The Chosen One.
With Seth Rollins now the World Heavyweight Champion, he’s going to be in need of someone to feud against. McIntyre could serve as the first to supplant Rollins as he pursues a Hollywood career.
Make sure to keep an eye out for the next couple of weeks, especially as the WWE prepares to head on over to London for Money in the Bank on July 1.
