The secret’s out, and we’re not talking about who’s behind the mask (or in this case, the masks) of Spider-Man.
Picking up shortly after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t take its sweet time holding your hand and telling you who you’re playing. Insomniac Games know that you’re diving into the follow-up knowing full well what’s at stake – Peter Parker and Miles Morales find themselves battling for the safety of New York against a smorgasbord of villains, led by none other than Kraven the Hunter and Venom.
While spoilers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 abound online, most still prefer to get their information drip from a legitimate information – reviews.
I am playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!
My review will be up on @ComicBook on October 16th at 10AM ET.

It’s been said that confident developers will make the review copies of their game available earlier than most. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 found itself in the hands of critics and lucky players a little over three weeks before Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes out on October 20. If that’s not a sign of Insomniac’s confidence in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we don’t know what is.
As for the review embargo of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the critics can lift the curtains off their hard-earned gameplay on October 16, which is a full four days before the game comes out.
While this isn’t quite as extensive as God of War: Ragnarok, four days to either change your mind or dive into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still plenty.
Don’t forget, some games don’t even lift their review embargos until the day of its release.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 holds a lot of significant for the PlayStation brand for a lot of reasons. For one, it’s the first and only first-party AAA title that’s coming out on the PlayStation 5 this year. Final Fantasy 16, while exclusive to the PS5, is a Square Enix game. The same goes for Forspoken, which was a disappointment, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Furthermore, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will likely be the last first-party exclusive that will be released under Jim Ryan, but Death Stranding 2 might change this, as per Hideo Kojima’s recent leak. The long-time Sony employee will resign from his position as the CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment in March 2024.
Finally, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes out just a little over a month after Starfield stole all the headlines.
As the ever-present fictional console wars inevitably rears its ugly head, we’re expecting heated discussions to take over the internet over the next few weeks as spoilers about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 start to leak online – the start screen isn’t as simple as it seems – and the internet starts to weirdly compare these two games, it’ll be interesting to see the story the numbers will tell.
As per the numbers, Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best-selling game on the PlayStation 4. Keep in mind that this doesn’t include Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales as well as the solo “remaster” for the PlayStation 5 and both games’ ports on the PC.
With such high expectations set against it, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be glad to know that Venom and Kraven the Hunter, among others, will be there to keep things interesting enough for players to willingly throw their money at their screens.
Speaking of money, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 themed consoles and accessories and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition, which comes with a 19-inch Venom statue, should be easier to get now after being scalped online following their initial announcement.
