Warner Bros. Discovery has announced it has another Final Destination project on the way. The media and entertainment company made this announcement during its panel at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
While this is the first official announcement of Final Destination 6, it isn't the first time news about the project emerged. In 2019, there were reports that a script was in development. Unfortunately, the project was put on hold in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that broke out soon after.
Warner's decision to greenlit a sixth installment of Final Destination is understandable given that the franchise has been more successful than not. The last installment debuted in theatres in 2011 and while it received mixed reviews from critics, it was a financial success with a $157 million box office gross against a $40 million production budget.
Given that the film is in the very early stages of development, there is little information available on it. Nevertheless, we know that Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor will pen its script based on a story by Jon Watts, who will also produce. Also, reports surfaced last year that Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, popular for their work on the 2018 science fiction thriller film Freaks, will direct the film.
