The animated trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon, enjoyed critical and commercial success during its theatrical run between 2010 and 2019. It spawned three spinoff television series, as well as numerous live shows. The first, second, and third films garnered 99%, 91%, and 90% critic approval ratings on the review website Rotten Tomatoes respectively. Also, the three films grossed $1.63 billion at the box office against a budget of $439 million.
So, now, Universal Pictures wants to see if a live-action remake is going to work.
Universal confirmed last Wednesday that it is developing a live-action adaptation of the highly successful trilogy, which will premiere in cinemas on March 14, 2025. The announcement confirms earlier claims made last month.
An official statement by the entertainment behemoth stated that the "live-action adaptation of the blockbuster How to Train Your Dragon franchise will transport audiences for the first time into a new cinematic experience and a bold, thrilling new chapter in the beloved story of Viking Hiccup and his Night Fury dragon, Toothless."
