Ubisoft just made a big announcement today for Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise – but you wouldn’t know it by looking at them. While we are waiting on The Division Heartland and Resurgence, Massive Entertainment casually announced The Division 3 with all the fanfare of discussing the weather.

In a surprise move, Ubisoft announced that Massive Entertainment’s Julian Gerighty has been tapped as the executive producer of The Division franchise. Gerighty is currently the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws and has been part of the first Division game since 2014. He will remain with Star Wars Outlaws until its launch before transitioning to his new role.

“Julian Gerighty is returning to the brand he helped usher into the world. Gerighty has been appointed Executive Producer for The Division Brand, and will make the move once Star Wars Outlaws – a game he is currently overseeing as Creative Director – has shipped,” Ubisoft announced.

Now, he’s setting his sights on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, as well as the plethora of other projects set in The Division universe, including the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, and the survival-action shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland.

Gerighty joined Massive Entertainment as an associate creative director for The Division and creative director for The Division 2. One of his first tasks as executive producer is to form a team that will be working on the third mainline title for The Division and continue the brand.

A core focus of Gerighty’s is to build a team for Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, which will be led by Massive Entertainment, while making sure Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 remains well supported,” Ubisoft said in its announcement. “Outside of that, his attention will be on a solidification of brand identity.”

Gerighty recalled watching the first reveal of The Division at E3 2013. He said that The Division had an open world that was “very relatable and very realistic” and felt that “you could really be an agent for change within it.” He hopes to continue the series which has attracted over 40 million players across all titles.

Gerighty was part of the team for The Division 1 and will now lead a new team for the third installment.

“There are only a few games that I can genuinely say blew me away the first time I saw them, and Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of them,” Gerighty commented. “I was immediately hooked, like so many others who are part of our devoted player community. It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to continue to build incredible and unforgettable experiences in this amazing world with the most talented teams around the world, and I can’t wait for what’s next.”

Star Wars Outlaws is due for release sometime in 2024. So, it will be a while before we see the start of development for The Division 3. We expect the next installment in the series to come out in 2025 at the earliest.

In the meantime, fans of the franchise will have plenty of games to play as The Division Heartland is set to come out next year while Resurgence is also expected to release late this year.
