The highly anticipated The Sims 4 pronouns update is finally here

EA promises that the new gender-inclusive options for The Sims 4 will get better in time.

After a long wait, Electronic Arts is finally giving The Sims 4 players the option to choose customizable pronouns.

EA first introduced the newly-added The Sims 4 feature in January, which will let players create pronouns as well as choose more inclusive pronouns like they/them, she/her, as well as he/him, among others.

According to EA, the same pronoun options are coming to other languages in a future update.

EA has made changing a Sim’s pronoun in The Sims 4 easy. EA has changed the beginning words of “Hello, my name is …” to “Hello, my name and pronouns are …” in Create-a-Sim. After clicking, it will take you to an input screen where you can create pronouns or choose from a list of available pronouns. Choosing the former will have to input a few different forms of your preferred pronouns for clarification.

Before the recent The Sims 4 update, players that created non-binary Sims often had issues with the game misgendering them in pop-ups, in-game messages, and gameplay. The new update guarantees that all pronouns in The Sims 4 will refer to players how they want to be called. EA adds that it’s working on making “the game more inclusive of all genders”, which includes removing certain leftover gendered words like “Policeman” and “Policewoman”, among others.

It's nice that EA didn't release the update as a paid DLC.

Interestingly, EA dropped the update just a few months after introducing it. This suggests that The Sims 4 still has the full backing of EA. Unfortunately, this means that EA isn’t keen on launching The Sims 5 anytime soon.

Hopefully, all of these inclusive-oriented features for The Sims 4 make their way to the next installment at launch.

After getting more inclusive pronouns, The Sims 4 players can look forward to werewolves coming to the game later this year.
