Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is synonymous with blockbuster hits. Over the past few years alone, The Rock has starred in some of the most financially successful films at the global box office, pandemic included. Case in point, The Rock's most recent outing, Red Notice, recently became the most-watched movie in Netflix's history. Meanwhile, Jungle Cruise still pulled in $220 million at the global box office despite being released on Disney+ on the same day that it premiered in theaters.
With The Rock pretty much anywhere these days, it always felt like it was only a matter of time before he dipped back into the video game movie genre. Now, it appears that the Black Adam actor is working on a new video game movie.
The Rock has starred in two big-screen adaptations of video games. The first one, 2005's Doom, was deemed both a critical and commercial failure. 2018's Rampage did better, pulling in $428 million at the global box office. A third one would probably do well given how much star power the Hollywood actor has now. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly just what video game the moving is going to be based on and when it is going to be released.
Speaking to Men's Journal while talking about Black Adam, Johnson dropped the skinny on his secret video game movie project. He referred to the source material as "one of the biggest, most bad-ass games" and one that he has "played for years."
