Fans of Monster Hunter are eagerly waiting for an announcement for the next installment in the series. There have been speculations about Monster Hunter 6 but unfortunately, Capcom hasn’t revealed its plans for the franchise just yet.
A new rumor suggests that the next Monster Hunter game will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2. This is interesting as many fans expect Monster Hunter 6 to be a home console and PC release of the same caliber as Monster Hunter World and Iceborne for Generation 5.
NecroFelipe, who uses the username Necropile on Famiboards, revealed that the upcoming Monster Hunter game is coming to the Switch 2. “Next mainline Monster Hunter will be released on Switch NG yes,” NecroFelipe wrote.

As with most rumors, NecroFelipe cannot substantiate the new information as it may compromise the source if they are revealed. So, the accuracy of this information isn’t something that we can vouch for. Please take the information you read with a grain of salt.
However, NecroFelipe does have a good track record for the information they share. The user has provided accurate Nintendo leaks on the Famiboard forums for some time now.
The rumor seems credible enough given that Monster Hunter has a great history with the Nintendo platform. While the first Monster Hunter game debuted on the PlayStation 2 in March 2004, it was the Nintendo exclusives that propelled the franchise in popularity.
Monster Hunter Tri was the first entry in the series that was released exclusively to the Nintendo Wii console. The game is regarded as one of the most popular games in the series and put the game on the map in North America and Europe. It was also one of the best-selling games in the series and was then followed up by Monster Hunter 4 which made online and local multiplayer a staple of the series.
Capcom negotiated with Nintendo for a new game that would not come to the platform in Monster Hunter World. The title was released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC and has been the best-selling game in the series. It was understandable that the game would not come to the Nintendo Switch as it leveraged the power of the last generation consoles.
The franchise returned to the Nintendo Switch with Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak. The most recent game in the series was released exclusively on the Nintendo handheld before making its way to PC and consoles.
There have been rumors that the new generation Switch will have the same power as the PS4 and Xbox One, making a release on the upcoming handheld a possibility. Given that new consoles use DLSS and similar upscaling technologies, it would be easy to imagine the Switch 2 would be capable of running games on par with PC and current-gen consoles.
Monster Hunter 6 may be the highlight of the Switch 2’s launch day titles and should be one of the main sellers of the hardware. We expect Capcom to reveal more details about the upcoming game soon as Monster Hunter celebrates its 20th anniversary in March 2024 and it would be odd for the studio not to reveal a new game by then.
