This year’s The Game Awards will be a lot shorter

Apparently, this week’s Game Awards will be "significantly shorter” compared to its predecessors after receiving feedback from viewers.

The Game Awards Shorter Scaled
God of War: Ragnarok is the leading candidate for GOTY this year with 9 nominations.

When you include the pre-show, The Game Awards can run for about four hours. This is one of the event’s more prominent and consistent qualities. Unfortunately, it’s also a pain point as several have raised concerns about its length. Because of this, Geoff Keighley has confirmed that this year’s event will not be as long.

As transcribed by ResetEra user Meelow, The Game Awards 2022 will still air with its usual share of award presentations, interviews with developers, as well as trailers and release date announcements.

However, Keighley confirmed it will be shorter compared to the showcase from last year with “fewer bigger games”. Yet, despite all the cutbacks, Keighley reassures its audiences that they can still expect “some really great announcements” from “amazing studios” on December 8.

The Game Awards 2022 will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The highlight is the Game of the Year announcement, currently being contested most strongly by God of War: Ragnarok and Elden Ring.

The Game Awards Shorter
This is probably the first year in a while where most fans will be okay regardless of which of Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok will win the GOTY award.

Fans are also tuning in to find out more about a smorgasbord of upcoming video games, specifically those arriving early next year. This includes confirmed involvements by Tekken 8, Final Fantasy 16, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Several other games could be a part of this year’s showcase as well, like Diablo 4, Death Stranding 2, and the next game from Hazelight Studios.
