There’s speculation that a new Death Stranding 2 trailer might be revealed at The Game Awards this year. The official X account for the awards show has fueled anticipation by possibly teasing a new trailer by replying to a tweet by Hideo Kojima.
Earlier today, Kojima shared photos of sound-mixing equipment. On its own, it wouldn’t have much meaning. However, The Game Awards replied to the tweet with an ‘eyes’ emoji, sparking speculation that the game director is working on a trailer for Death Stranding 2 that may premiere at the awards show.
The interaction between Kojima and The Game Awards on X is certainly interesting. To add a bit more weight to the tweet, the reply by The Game Awards was deleted several hours after it was posted. Luckily, Okami Games managed to take a screenshot before the tweet was deleted.

Kojima and The Game Awards have a bit of history which adds to the intrigue surrounding the tweets. The awards show has been host to some of the biggest announcements in the gaming industry including Death Stranding 2’s initial reveal. There is strong reason to believe that the upcoming sequel will once again be part of the awards show. However, Kojima may be working on a totally different project.
Information about Death Stranding 2 has been scarce since its initial reveal at The Game Awards last year. We know that Norman Reedus and Troy Baker are returning for the next installment. Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Léa Seydoux are also involved with Death Stranding 2 but their roles have yet to be revealed. Reedus said in 2022 that they have just begun working on the sequel.
There has been new information suggesting that the sequel may arrive in 2025. The rumor comes from a screenshot that was shared on ResetERA showing the unnamed ArtStation profile of a professional artist who worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. The profile lists Death Stranding 2 with a 2025 release window. While the screenshot looks legit, the information specified may not be accurate.
Given all the information we have at the moment, a trailer for Death Stranding 2 at The Game Awards is possible. It’s a good idea to reveal a new trailer a year ahead of its presumed release in 2025. It gives fans something to be excited about and Kojima can fuel interest in the game by revealing more information throughout 2024.
Death Stranding 2 is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5.
