DC Studios released the second full trailer for the upcoming The Flash movie, showcasing new scenes with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as their versions of Batman.
Intended as the reset button for the DC Extended Universe into the DC Universe, anticipation for The Flash is building up. With the failure of Shazam! Fury of the Gods at the box office, most fans of the DC properties are hoping for a better turnout for the DCEU's last hurrah. On the other hand, there are fans with lower expectations, especially after rumors surfaced that the cameos of Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill have been removed from The Flash.
Can the new trailer for The Flash renew fan excitement? Check out the details below. The new trailer for The Flash was released earlier today via the DC Comics and Warner Bros. social media channels. DC Studios Co-CEO and director James Gunn also shared it on his Twitter feed:
There are a number of new scenes that highlight the two Batmen. Ben Affleck's DCEU Batman gets a few more quick shots with his Bat-cycle and sporting the new blue and gray costume. On the other hand, Michael Keaton's Batman returning from the Tim Burton films displays some dialogue and action that is reminiscent of his take on the Dark Knight.
Keaton even has a voiceover that reflects his war on crime and how, for all his efforts, he can never bring back his parents. This is juxtaposed to how Miller's Barry Allen being able to accomplish what Bruce couldn't: turn back the time and change the outcome. But Barry is now recognizing doing so may have doomed the entire universe.
At one point, Keaton's Batman even blocks bullets with his cape, echoing the DC Comics version. There are also more action scenes with the Bat-wing, showcasing what it can do against conventional forces and against the invading Kryptonians. Plus, there are nods to the
, such as Keaton's "let's get nuts" line from the 1989 movie.
In addition, there are a few new shots at Sasha Calle's Kara aka Supergirl. Notably, we get to see her squaring off against General Zod (Michael Shannon), reminiscent of Henry Cavill's Superman battling the Kryptonians in 2013's Man of Steel.
The new trailer for The Flash also provides an updated synopsis of the superhero film:
Worlds collide in "The Flash" when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
