As rumors of Henry Cavill’s return in Black Adam continue, behind the scenes test fitting photos of the actor from 2013’s Man of Steel surface online.

While rumors continue to spread that Henry Cavill is back as Superman in Black Adam, some of his Man of Steel test fitting photos have surfaced for auction.

Henry Cavill portrayed Superman beginning in Man of Steel (2013) and his last official appearance as the character was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021). Fans of the DC Extended Universe have clamored for the star to return to the role even as a cameo, but Warner Bros. have so far opted for body doubles that do not show Superman’s face. However, these doubles have worn the Superman costume Cavill wore in the role.

The behind-the-scenes photos of Henry Cavill during pre-production of Man of Steel were posted at Propstore Auction’s website.

The post describes the photos (identified as lot #1148) as follows:

30 pages of printed Superman (Henry Cavill) suit concept designs and photos from Zack Snyder's superhero film Man of Steel. Jor-El (Russell Crowe) presented his son Kal-El with what would become his signature Kryptonian suit.

Going further into the description, the batch of images as including prints of costume designs, references from the comic books, hair and makeup photos of a younger Henry Cavill, and test fitting of the prototype suits on mannequins as well as Cavill himself. The suit designs and the prototypes also include the watermarks of Frontline Design, which is the specialty costuming firm that handled the Man of Steel pre-production.

The photos up for auction depict Henry Cavill and pre-production concept art, models, and test suits by Frontline Design.

Aside from Henry Cavill’s test suits as Superman, the photos also showed concepts and designs for the other Kryptonians, particularly those of General Zod (Michael Shannon) and the others imprisoned in the Phantom Zone.

Looking at the samples, it appears the initial designs feature a lighter and more vibrant hue to the blue and red of the Superman costume. Plus, there are concept art that imply that it was considered for Henry to sport a longer hairdo for the movie. This would be reminiscent of the DC Comics 1990s Superman which had kept his hair long after being resurrected from his death at the hands of Doomsday.

The BTS photos reveal that longer hair for Henry Cavill was considered, which is reminiscent of the 1990s after the Death of Superman comic books.

The photos from the Propstore Auction page have since been shared on social media by fans, particularly on Twitter.

With rumors and speculation of Henry Cavill’s return in the Black Adam film for a post-credits scene opposite Dwayne Johnson, will he be wearing his now-iconic Man of Steel suit shown in these photos being auctioned? Will it be the redesigned suit in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, or the black suit in the Snyder Cut of Justice League? Some rumors imply that it will be a new suit that is similar to the classic Christopher Reeve costume, along with the John Williams theme accompanying his appearance.

The Propstore lot of the Man of Steel BTS photos will be part of the Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in London on November 3 to November 6, 2022.
