The Division 2 surpasses 20 million players

Ubisoft thanks the players that have supported it for several years as it prepares to release Year 5 content on Wednesday, June 7.

Over 20 million players have been part of The Division 2.

It’s hard to believe that The Division 2 is in its fifth year already. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are celebrating this big milestone as the popular third-person looter shooter turns a half-decade old.

Massive Entertainment, the studio behind The Division series, announced on Twitter that 20 million agents (players) have been activated since the game was launched in 2019. This is a huge milestone for the looter shooter and should bode well for the future of the franchise.

“20 million Agents have been activated!” Massive tweeted. “Thank you for your passion and support. The journey continues on June 8, when we kick off Year 5 Season 1: Broken Wings.”

Massive recently hosted The Division Day to discuss the game’s roadmap for Year 5. During the event, the upcoming spin-offs The Division Heartland and Resurgence were also featured, further cementing the series as one of Ubisoft’s core titles for the foreseeable future.

The Year 5 content for The Division 2 kicks off with Season 1: Broken Wings. The newest chapter in the long-running live service game will be adding a new Manhunt target named Mari Singh. The main difference with previous manhunts is that the aim for the first season is to rescue people that have been held hostage by Black Tusk.

Singh will be key to rebuilding the Castle Settlement and she will be using the location as her headquarters. Every character that the player rescues in Broken Wings will unlock more of the story.

Year 5 brings a ton of new content including a new DLC, manhunts, and game modes.

The upcoming season will also be introducing a new game mode called Descent. The new game mode can be played with up to four players and each agent will start without any gear, perks, and specialization. Players can unlock each of these items by progressing through the mode.

Each of the upcoming seasons for Year 5 will add Manhunts, Events, and Leagues to The Division 2. A new incursion is also coming to the game later on in the year. Massive will also be releasing a story DLC which will feature new zones, main missions, and endgame content.

Massive will be hosting a developer livestream event for Year 5 Season 1: Broken Wings. The deep dive will give fans a breakdown of what to expect in the upcoming season. The developer livestream will be broadcast via The Division 2’s official Twitch channel on June 7th.

The Division 2 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
